Adaptive Classes & Integrated Classrooms

Adaptive classes will provide your child with the opportunity to explore the world of dance and gymnastics while also developing important cognitive, physical, and social skills. Classes may be small groups or in a inclusive setting depending on each child’s needs. Upon request, this class will be linked to your child’s IEP goals.

Adaptive Dance Director

Meghan Alkire is passionate about movement through both dance and rehabilitation. She grew up dancing at the age of 3 in Madison, Alabama. Meghan has trained in many styles of dance including ballet, modern, jazz, tap and contemporary. She recently graduated from the University of Alabama with a B.A. in Psychology & Dance on the track for Occupational Therapy. At the university, she spent much of her time volunteering with various organizations. Within the dance department, she taught and assisted dance classes in the Cerebral Palsy Engagement Workshop for adults and taught dance in an afterschool program for Tuscaloosa City Schools. Outside the department, she assisted a dance class for children with mental and physical disabilities, and served as a mentor to a college student with autism. Meghan started teaching the adaptive dance classes at DDC&G in 2022, and has received generous support and mentorship from the staff. She is in the Occupational Therapy Doctoral Program Class of 2026 at The Ohio State University. Meghan is excited to serve as the Adaptive Dance Director, helping every student thrive as she continues to teach in the classroom. She is passionate about the adaptive dance program and aims to provide an enjoyable experience that puts a smile on her students’ faces.
